1965 Ferrari 275 GTS

1 of 18 UK RHD 275 GTS. Ferrari Classiche Certified

Delivered on July 8th1965 by Maranello Concessionaires Ltd. to the first owner David Baker from Lewes, East Sussex, England. A passionate hillclimbing enthusiast, Mr Baker customised the car painting it red and adding a Williams & Pritchard coachbuilt hardtop, recessed and covered headlamps and eventually a Ferrari 500 Superfast engine sourced from a crashed car in 1971.

After passing through a couple of owners’ hands the car was eventually restored to original spec. in 2012 and a correct type (275 GTS) engine fitted. Today the car has been fully recommissioned by the Bell Sport & Classic team focussing on the key mechanicals to deliver a car ready for the 2026 Ferrari 275 Legacy Tour in Umbria.

The Ferrari 275 GTS

Introduced at the 1964 Paris Motor Show, the 275 GTS arrived at a pivotal moment for Ferrari. The marque was transitioning from its raw, competition-bred grand tourers of the late 1950s and early ’60s toward a more refined, internationally appealing range of road cars. If the 275 GTB was the athlete of the family, the GTS was its cosmopolitan sibling.
Styled and built by Pininfarina rather than Scaglietti, the 275 GTS is elegant rather than dramatic, refined and quintessentially mid-1960s Italian.

At its heart is Gioacchino Colombo 3.3-litre V12, producing around 260 horsepower in GTS specification. While tuned more for relaxed touring than outright performance, it is still capable of achieving 150 mph, serious pace for an open car from the mid-1960s.

Yet the GTS was never about lap speed. It was conceived as a luxurious grand tourer for the expanding American market, offering open-air V12 motoring with civility and comfort and is a reminder that Ferrari’s history is not only about competition triumphs, but also about crafting deeply charismatic grand touring cars for the road.
