1988 Porsche 944 2.7 Lux
The 944 was important car for Porsche in the 80’s. Unveiled at the 1981 Frankfurt Motor Show, the 944 was an instant hit.
Initially the 944 came with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine developed 163bhp and was clothed in a body that was similar to a 924 Carrera GT Le Mans underlining the 944’s more hardcore appeal. It went on sale in the UK towards the end of 1982 badged as a Lux and soon gathered a very loyal following.Handling and grip were sensational, and deservedly the 944 went on to outsell the 924 and more importantly keeping Porsche afloat during the tough years of the early 1980s. Interior revisions in 1985 gave it a swooping dashboard, as well as revised door panels. For 1988-’89 the last year of eight-valve 944 production the engine capacity rose to 2.7-litres from 2.5-litres (making it one of the largest four-pots you could buy), improving throttle response even more and increasing the power to 165bhp.
