Launched at the London Motor Show in October 1965, the Aston Martin DB6 was a direct development of the DB5 and featured improved aerodynamics and a more generous specification. Powered by the same 4.0-litre DOHC ‘straight-six’ Aston Martin engine, notable differences included a longer wheelbase, a Kamm-styled rear spoiler to improve high-speed stability, a higher roofline, quarter bumpers and an oil-cooler scoop. Although the increase in cabin space made the DB6 a more practical proposition as a family car well-known owners included HRH Prince Charles, Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Twiggy and Peter Sellers.
First registered on 5 December 1967, this beautiful Aston Martin DB6 2+2 coupé was originally fitted with a Borg-Warner 3-speed automatic gearbox, the ‘factory build sheet’ showing the car was fitted with power-assisted steering as an optional extra and to have been finished in metallic Celeste, a metallic light blue, with dark blue Connolly leather upholstery and dark blue carpets.
First registered on 5 December 1967 with the registration JON 107, the build sheet records the car being purchased from Aston Martin agent, H.R. Owen, by John Higgenson, of Birmingham-based property developers, George Higgenson & Son Ltd.
The car is now part way through restoration by the Bell Sport and Classic team. Having been completely stripped, scanned, and assessed we are carrying out a thorough overhaul of all major components including a full rebuild of the engine to original factory spec. with upgraded oil and water pumps for improved performance and reliability.
The car has been stripped back to its Superleggera structure, scanned and inspected for imperfections. The Superleggera steel frame has been re-wrapped and the nose and steel components of the body replaced with the floor and Superleggera frame powder coated. New body panels have been hand crafted by original factory team members to ensure absolute authenticity and correct shape and fit.
The next step will see the project progress to dry build and paint.
