1967 Lamborghini P400 Miura

Miura Verde with Nero

Restored to the highest level by Lamborghini Polo Storico, Lamborghini’s centre dedicated to classic Lamborghinis based at the factory in Sant’Agata Bolognese.

Take a moment and reflect on what makes the Miura so special.
In 1966 there was simply nothing like it. Only racing cars had mid-mounted engines and Ferrari's road-going mainstay was the traditional front-engined 275GTB.
When tractor magnate Ferruccio Lamborghini stole the attention of the Geneva Salon crowd with the Miura, people were shocked as much by its audacious mechanical layout as they were by its era-defining and stunningly gorgeous styling.

The car's technical specification was breathtaking in its sophistication and complexity. Lamborghini’s top three engineers, Gian Paolo Dallara, Paolo Stanzani and Bob Wallace dedicated their own time to developing the car which carried its transversely mounted engine amidships in a box-section platform chassis, the latter clothed in stunning coupé coachwork styled by Bertone's Marcello Gandini.

The P400 (Posteriore 4 litri) Miura uses the 4.0-litre version of Lamborghini's Giotto Bizzarrini-designed four-cam V12 producing 350bhp. At its debut the Miura was the fastest production car in the world; with a top speed of 174 mph and a price tag of $20,000

This Lamborghini Miura P400:

The purest of all Miura design is the earliest, the P400, of which only 275 were built. The car we are offering here is one such car, being completed on 21st September 1967 and delivered new to the Swiss Lamborghini importer, Garage Foitek AG of Zurich.

As one of the first 125 Miura’s, it was built 0.9 mm steel for the chassis (increased to 1mm subsequently) and is therefore lighter than the later cars.

Another desirable feature of the P400 is that they have the purest and cleanest interior of all Miuras, with the two large dials directly in front of the driver behind the large diameter, three spoked steering wheel and toggle switches in the roof. The door cards, with the diagonal stitching pattern are also a great feature of the early P400’s.

The definitive supercar of the Sixties, in original P400 form it left its rivals for dead in terms of styling and potential performance and handling. Today, the Miura is considered the original supercar, the motoring landmark that set the template and inspired all Latin exotica that followed, and is frequently voted ‘sexiest car’ of all time.

Very few cars managed to change the course of automotive history the way the Miura did. With its transversely mounted, mid-engine V12 and mesmerizing coachwork, the Miura set the automobile down a new course of style and performance.
