The Maserati MC20 shook up the supercar order in spectacular style when it arrived in 2022.
Building on the coupe’s brilliance, the open top version, the MC20 Cielo (it means sky or heaven) exposes you to the elements and a truly joyful driving experience.
The MC20 is carbon tubbed with double wishbone suspension, adaptive damping all-round and features an eight-speed twin-clutch gearbox paired to Maserati’s wonderful 626 bhp 3 litre, 90-degree V6 “Nettuno” power unit. The MC20 Cielo can hit 62mph in 3 seconds dead and head on to a top speed of 199 mph giving it genuine supercar credentials.
The Cielo’s driving experience is characterised by fluency and lightness of touch, the setup particularly compatible with British roads, which it rides compliantly even in its sportier driving modes. It feels rigid over bumps too. Roof-down touring at everyday speeds is comfortable, enriched by the admission of more of the sights, sounds and smells of the outside world than the coupé would manage.
It's a car with lots of talents and dimensions. You could use it for a recreational blast and make your heart sing. It's quick, engaging and friendly. Or – provided you have a talent for packing relatively light, you could enjoy the slow-burn pleasure of a long tour. In each of those uses the disappearing roof would only add to the joy.
