The Holy Grail Morgan. Without question, the prettiest car the Morgan factory has ever produced and with a power plant to pack a suitable punch too, the Morgan Aero 8 has been heralded as one of the best looking British cars ever made and with fewer than 200 produced, one of the most exclusive.
The Aero 8 launched in 2000 powered by BMW’s 4.4-litre V8. The first aluminium chassis Morgan the car was light, raw and more than a little wild. Successive series saw the Aero 8 develop technically ans aesthetically to become a more cohesive (and enjoyable) sports car.
In 2015 the series five Aero 8 was released - quite different to what had gone before, featuring a 10 per cent stiffer chassis, conventional outboard wishbone suspension with coilovers and anti-roll bars, a 370hp version of the 4.8-litre engine, AeroMax front end, new body panels from the A-pillars back, Supersports-style boat-tail rear, and a nicely faired-in convertible roof in place of the usual 'pram style’ top
When paired to a bonded aluminium chassis that resulted in a curb weight of just 1,180 Kg, the V8 powerplant delivers impressive performance with 0-62mph arriving in roughly 4.5 seconds and a top speed in excess of 170 mph.
These rare machines are highly sought-after and rarely come to market - not least with specifications like this one.
