The 992-generation Porsche 911 Targa 4 is a desirable and surefooted open-top performance car. It is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre flat-six, developing 379bhp sent to all four wheels through an eight-speed PDK automatic transmission with paddle shift.

Somewhat of a paradox, some will proclaim it's the least focused version of the world’s favourite sports car, yet it more than makes up for that in many ways. Thanks to the 911’s brilliant platform, here is a convertible that’s searingly quick, sharp to drive, plush around town, surprisingly practical and genuinely usable 365 days of the year. This isn’t just a car you could drive every day, it’s one you’ll really want to.

In terms of refinement, with its roof up, the Targa does an even better job than the Cabriolet at suppressing wind noise at speed, and with the roof down, thanks to the clever wind deflector mounted on the top of the windscreen there’s not much buffeting.

With its sweetly weighted steering and superb body control the 911 Targa 4 allows you to push right up to the limit of adhesion with utter confidence. This is a car that is incredibly rapid from A to B, and while the Targa’s standard four-wheel-drive might reign back some of the tail-wagging playfulness that runs through the veins of rear-drive 911s, it does make it particularly surefooted, even on greasy roads.
