Who We Are

The ‘Bell’ name originated from our founder Mr Bell, the inventor of the Bell fuel can after the second world war. His passion for cars led him and another investor to form Bell Classics in 1989 specialising in restoration and servicing sports cars. As owners of classic Ferraris and Aston Martins, these models were a natural choice for the business; servicing, restoring and selling all models of Ferrari and Aston Martin DB4, DB5 and DB6.

As the business grew, our site eventually expanded from Gibraltar Farm in Harpenden to our brand new state-of-the-art facility at Hill View, Markyate in 2017.  Following an exciting phase of growth in the last 18 months, Bell Classics has now extended into the sales, service and maintenance of modern classics and sports cars alongside our heritage of restoring and maintaining classic Ferraris and Astons.

What we offer

Sale, Servicing, Restoration, Storage and Sourcing

As the owner of a treasured classic, modern classic, Sports or Super car which will demand only the very best workmanship, care and attention you’ll want it to be treated accordingly. As enthusiasts and owners we appreciate and fully understand that need. Whether your car is due an annual service, requires repair, or extensive restoration work, both you and your car will receive first class service and benefit from the knowledge and experience the team at Bell Classics have accumulated over the years.

As specialists we’ve developed an encyclopaedic knowledge of classic Ferrari and Aston Martin sports cars. We understand how they were developed, how they were constructed, and how they perform; we know about the upgrades and improvements that were introduced and we have access to records and documentation to support that.

We understand the need for authenticity. We research any repair or restoration work to ensure that it is correct for that particular car at that particular time in its history.

Our History

Bell Sport and Classic wouldn’t exist today without one man. The softly-spoken Peter Bell was an engineer, a lifelong car enthusiast and a man whose entrepreneurial spirit saw him create not one, but several successful businesses.

Born in 1926 in the coalmining Yorkshire town of Wath on Dean, Peter served in the Navy towards the end of the Second World War and afterwards continued his education with a degree in engineering. His first job was in the chemical industry, working for ICI, before moving to glassmakers Pilkingtons as a works engineer. A spell at DuPont in Canada followed, during which time Peter became conversant with the booming world of plastics technology. Moving back to England with his wife and young daughter, he transferred those skills to the Polyester Film Division of ICI in Welwyn Garden City.
